Patreon - Performance And Analysis

Hello Everyone,

Hope you're all doing well!  I wanted to let you know about a series of videos I do on my Patreon page called 'Performance and Analysis.'  Each week I take a classic Jazz or Blues standard, play a couple choruses, and then go through and examine some of the key harmonic and improvisational concepts

It's great for those of you who want to take a deeper dive into the music.  Below is a quick excerpt from my look at All The Things You Are.  If you're interested, visit me on Patreon at: www.patreon.com/benpatersonmusic

Hello Everyone,

I'm excited to announce that I've finished a video tutorial of my arrangement / recording of Isn't She Lovely.  My most popular song on YouTube to date, I recorded an instructional tutorial containing over 50 minutes of note by note analysis and demonstration, going over everything from voicings and harmony to soloing techniques.

Here's a preview video if you're interested.  The full video is available on the teaching page of this site for $29.99.  Thanks!

Zoom Live Stream Concert - 6/6, 4 PM ET / All Proceeds to the NAACP LDF

Hello Everyone,

This has been a painful week for all of us, seeing the escalation of violence, and confronting some of the persistant and endemic failings and injustices of our society.   Hopefully this Saturday we can share in some good music, and be part of the solution, by raising money for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.

This music that I play, and that I love, while it has from the beginning been inclusive and welcoming of all races and creeds, is at it's core black american music, and it would not exist without the black american experience.

The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. is America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice. Through litigation, advocacy, and public education, LDF seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans.

As usual there's a $10 'cover charge', but no drink minimum (or maximum), and you get the best seat in the house.  Registration info below.

Hope to see you there,
Ben

Lincoln Center - Oscar Peterson Tribute

It was such an amazing experience to perform at Lincoln Center this past February as part of their Tribute to Oscar Peterson.  Performing in that beautiful hall, and sharing the stage with some of my favorite pianists like Kenny Barron, Benny Green, and Gerald Clayton, was an honor and an extremely enjoyable privilege.  Here are a few photos from that night, thanks to everyone who helped make it possible, and to everyone who came out to see the show!

Ben Paterson - Live at Van Gelder's

Hello everyone,

I'm excited to announce the release of my newest organ trio CD:

Ben Paterson Trio - Live at Van Gelder's.

This was an amazing project, recorded live in front of an audience at the legendary Rudy Van Gelder recording studio.  I'm joined by my good friends Ed Cherry on guitar and Jason Tiemann on drums, as we play a collection of some of our favorite Jazz standards and Blue Note classics. The record is available now at www.cellarlive.com.

Check out this video about our experience in the studio, and how this trio came together.  Hope you enjoy!

Ellis Marsalis International Jazz Piano Competition

I'm excited to announce that I was chosen as the First Place Winner this past weekend at the inaugural Ellis Marsalis International Jazz Piano Competition!

I'm especially honored since all the other finalists were exceptional musicians and incredibly nice people. It was great to meet and perform for Mr. Marsalis and all the other judges, many thanks to everyone involved.  Excited to see what opportunities come from this.
